Living

I Do Not Think That Praises Ever

by Walter Savage Landor 1775–1864

From Works and Life, ed. Forster, vol. VIII (1876)

Living

I do not think that praises ever
Derange a sound and healthy liver,
Altho' they get into the head
Of some who are too highly fed;

A hungry mountain swain meanwhile
From bitter crust o'erflows with bile.
