Nature

Crewbawn

by Francis Ledwidge 1887–1917

From Songs of Peace (1917)

NatureDeath & Dying

White clouds that change and pass,
And stars that shine awhile,
Dew water on the grass,
A fox upon a stile.

A river broad and deep,
A slow boat on the waves,
My sad thoughts on the sleep
That hollows out the graves.

Nine lines of images, white clouds and passing stars, dew on the grass, a fox on a stile, a river with a slow boat, and 'my sad thoughts on the sleep that hollows out the graves'.
