Living

Escape

by Li She 9th century AD

Translated by Herbert A. Giles (1898) · From Chinese Poetry in English Verse (1898)

Living

Confusion overwhelming me, as in a drunken dream,
I note that spring has fled and wander off to hill and stream;
With a friendly Buddhist priest I seek a respite from the strife
Arid manifold anomalies which go to make up life.
