Book IX, Epigram 24 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
Who, portraying in a bust Imperial features, has in Latin marble surpassed Phidian ivory? This is the aspect of a world, this the countenance of Jove in calm: so thunders that god when he thunders in cloudless skies. Not a crown alone has Pallas granted thee, Carus; our master's effigy which thou dost worship has she given.
