Love
Book VI, Epigram 34 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
Give me, Diadumenus, kisses closely pressed. "How many?" thou sayest. Thou biddest me sum Ocean's waves, and the shells strewn o'er Aegean shores, and the bees that stray on Cecrops' hill, the voices and hands that resound in the full theatre when the people see Caesar's unexpected face. Not for me the number that .Lesbia, won by prayer, gave to tuneful Catullus. He wishes but few who is able to count.
