My God ! what wondrous love was Thine
From Parish Musings (1863)
My God! what wondrous love was Thine,
How deep, how boundless, how divine!
That, when Thine erring sheep had stray'd,
Thus found them and such ransom paid!
How cold the hearts that do not burn
With zeal to show some faint return
To One, whose love might well require
Each thought, each feeling, each desire!
Lord! Thou hast not denied Thy Son!
Perfect the glorious work begun,
And give Thy grace, — in mercy give —
That we may both believe and live.
Codex Note
Text: God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. — John iii. 16.
