Hush ! 'tis the hour of rest
From Parish Musings (1863)
Hush! 'tis the hour of rest,
The stilly hour, when we
Toil-worn and care-oppress'd,
Lord! lift our hearts to Thee;
Tho' darkness round us lies,
Bright watch Thine angels keep;
Tho' slumber seal our eyes,
Thine never sleep!
O blessed Saviour, take us
Beneath Thy sheltering wing,
With morning to awake us
Thy welcome praise to sing;
That at the hour of rest, —
As thro' day's toil and care, —
Praise may uplift each breast
Whose breath is prayer!
