To a Child, who Asked me for a Poem

by Roden Noel 1834–1894

From Poems first published in the Canterbury Poets series

Arts & Sciences

You ask me for a poem, dear.
You want from me a lay,
Who are a music blithe and clear
Sung sweetly day by day !
You, child, have songs within your heart,
More pure than aught of mine ;
P'or Life, my dear, is more than Art,
Who sings you is Divine.
