Time & Brevity

Song of Summer

by Roden Noel 1834–1894

From The Red Flag and Other Poems (1872)

Time & Brevity

Sweeter seems to you the mornint
Than the day !
Dearer to your soul the delicate
Blush of May,
Than a glow of summer roses
On the heart of June :
Yea, the dewy star of morning
Conquers noon !
Ah ! but Phosphor only fadeth
Into light ;
Spring will yield his breath to summer —
Day will wane to night !
Summer, with his face to winter,
Leaves delight !
Hear the passionate Summer say,
" Love me a little while you may.
Ere I pass away ! "
