Death & Dying

A Milk-white Bloomed Acacia Tree

by Roden Noel 1834–1894

From A Little Child's Monument (1881)

Death & Dying

A MILK-WHITE bloomed acacia tree,
A flowery fair lawn.
Lark-song upsoaring from the lea.
In a rosy dawn ;
A little child who, while he sings,
Gives light and joy to all, and song, and sunny wings !

The green acacia still blooms,
And all the fairy flowers.
Song thrills the chorister's light plumes
In blue celestial bowers ;
Darkling I wander in the wild.
Looking for my little child ;
I cannot hear his happy voice.
Bidding all the world be lovely, and rejoice.
