Book IX, 180
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. III, 1917)
Fortune, who pliest thy trade through all our life, whose nature is like untempered wine, thou who art ever mixing and pouring from vessel to vessel, now hast thou too become a tavern-keeper instead of a goddess, a calling suitable to thy character.
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
Codex Note
Paton: This and the three following are written on the subject of a Temple of Fortune converted into a Tavern.
