Love

Holiday

by Josephine Preston Peabody 1874–1922

From The Singing Leaves (1903)

Love

When I am far from joy of this,
In yon thick world of men,
O, save me—save me, world of blue!—
That I shall thirst for then.

And when the little strength is spent
And little hope burns low,
Blow softly on that tortured flame,
—Fresh air from long ago!
