Nature

Torch-Light in Autumn

by John James Piatt 1835–1917

From An American Anthology, 1787-1900, ed. E. C. Stedman (1900)

Nature

I lift this sumach-bough with crimson flare,
And, touched with subtle pangs of dreamy pain,
Through the dark wood a torch I seem to bear
In Autumn's funeral train.
