Book IV, 49: On CORDVPLO

by Francis Quarles 1592–1644

From Divine Fancies (1633), Book IV

Religion

Keepe in thy Actions, and maintaine the Fences
Of thy clos'd lipps, Corduplo, and thy Senses;
Thou shalt deceive both Man and Devill too,
And mayst be damn'd, and yet they never know;
The Devils power of knowledge never delves
Into our hearts, till we proclaime our selves.
