Book IV, 92: On Philautos
From Divine Fancies (1633), Book IV
Religion
Philauto's Charity is like a Mouse
That keepes at home, and never leaves the house,
Till it be fir'd: It stirres for no mans cause,
Vnlesse to feed on Crumms of vaine Applause:
Take heed, Philautos, lest thou heed too late;
The Mouse, in time, will eate up thy Estate.
