Book IV, 96: On MENDAX
From Divine Fancies (1633), Book IV
Religion
Faire-spoken Mendax, on the least occasion,
Sweares by his Faith, and by his owne Salvation;
Is rashbrayne Mendax, well advised, then,
To pawne his Faith in God, for Faith with Men?
Sure, small's thy Wit or Credit, to be drawne
For Wares so poore, to leave so great a Pawne.
