Love

Book V, 22

by Rufinus date uncertain, perhaps 2nd–4th century AD

Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. I, 1916)

Love

Love, the giver of sweet gifts, gave me to thee, Boépis, for a servant, yoking the steer that came himself to bend his neck to Desire, all of his own free will, at his own bidding, an abject slave who will never ask for bitter freedom, never, my dear, till he grows grey and old. May no evil eye ever look on our hopes to blight them !
