Genesis 3: Why should a mortal man complain

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 9 (1870)

Religion

Why should a mortal man complain,
When sentenced to a life of pain?
Why should a saint by grace restored
Expect to be above his Lord?
There's no immunity from woe.
No perfect paradise below,
Not holiness itself can save
A saint, a sinner, from the grave.
