Exodus 9:17: Such is the stubbornness of man

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 9 (1870)

Religion

Such is the stubbornness of man!
So deep in me the evil lies!
Chastised a thousand times in vain,
I still against Thy judgments rise:
Not all Thy judgments can convert
This sinner, or this sin remove,
Unless Thou find it in Thy heart
To soften mine by pardoning love.
