1 Kings: While wandering in the wilderness

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 9 (1870)

Religion

While wandering in the wilderness,
Such was my clamour to expire.
Not the deliberate wish of grace,
But nature's passionate desire:
Father, my peevish haste forgive,
And strengthen'd by Thy Spirit's supply,
Patient, at Thy command, I live,
Joyful, at Thy permission, die.
