Job 42:6: Wherefore I abhor myself

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 9 (1870)

Religion

Appear, great God, appear to me.
That by myself abhorr'd,
Ashamed I may for ever be
Before my glorious Lord:
That only siglU can pride abase,
Can force me to submit.
Which makes archangels veil their face,
And tremble at Thy feet.
