Father, Thou dost not gladly grieve,
Or put Thy prodigal to pain;
My needful chastening I receive,
A sinful, thoughtless child of man;
To think, afflicted, I begin.
Study the meaning of Thy rod,
Review my life, renounce my sin,
And turn with all my heart to God.
