Isaiah 64: We fade as the leaf

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 9 (1870)

Religion

Well doth a summer leaf explain
The transient state of feeble man;
We flourish fair in youthful bloom.
Till age and pallid autumn come;
He comes with sickness at his side,
He withers all our verdant pride;
And shook with the first stormy gust,
We drop, and crumble into dust.
