Zechariah 4: The first faint spark of good desire

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 10 (1871)

Religion

The first faint spark of good desire
Which feebly would to heaven aspire
Its kindler God will not despise;
The spark into a flame shall spread;
And bless'd by Him the smallest seed
Of faith into a tree shall rise:

This dawn of grace, this glimmering ray
Shall shine into the perfect day,
For faithful Thou, my Saviour art;
And I who tremble at Thy word
Shall find my paradise restored,
Shall love my God with all my heart.
