Matthew 22: Poor, ignorant, illiterate men

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 10 (1871)

Religion

Poor, ignorant, illiterate men.
We cannot what we feel explain.
But taught, enlighten'd from above,
We know both God and man to love
Tis all our training here below,
Tis all we want in heaven to know,
Tis gospel pure which Christ imparts,
Tis Scripture written on our hearts.
