Matthew 24: Pretenders to the Spirit rise

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 10 (1871)

Religion

Pretenders to the Spirit rise
In every age and place,
And prophets false who uttering lies
The Christian cause disgrace:
Many forget the snare foretold
And think their ravings true;
But who believe the prophets old
Will never trust the new.
