Mark 1: That Spirit Divine, that Water clean

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 10 (1871)

Religion

That Spirit Divine, that Water clean,
Jesus, Thou only canst impart,
That Fire which burns up all our sin.
And purifies the foulest heart:
O might He now the filth remove.
The burden of this wretched breast,
And kindling here a flame of love
For ever in His temple rest!
