Mark 5:3, 4: The soul o'ercome by vile desires

Religion

The soul o'ercome by vile desires,
When his last spark of grace expires,
Is number'd with the dead.
Buried in a foul body dwells
And all the rage of passion feels.
By sin and Satan led.

Impatient of control he flies.
Breaks through the strongest sacred ties
And ranges unconfined,
Nor shame nor conscience can restrain,
Nor all the laws of God and man
The fiend incarnate bind.
