Mark 14:64: They all condemned Him

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 11 (1871)

Religion

Adjudged to die He is by all,
A criminal unfit to live:
Our sins transferr'd for justice call;
And meek the sentence to receive
The patient Lamb makes no reply,
For all His meaning is to die.

Guilty of death Thou art indeed
Who dost the general guilt assume,
Appearing in the sinner's stead,
Our merits justify Thy doom:
And freely moved by love alone,
Thou mak'st our sins and death Thine own.
