Luke: Hail, Filial Deity

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 11 (1871)

Religion

Hail, Filial Deity,
Our hearts bow down to Thee,
Number'd with the sinful race.
Partner of our flesh and blood,
Thee we magnify and praise.
Son of Adam, and of God.

Offspring of God and man.
Thou dost our cause maintain.
Power omnipotent. Divine,
Mix'd with soft infirmity.
Greatness and compassion join,
God and man, to ransom me!
