Luke 23:2: If charged the holy Jesus be

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

Religion

If charged the holy Jesus be
With faction, treason, blasphemy.
Can innocence secure?
Or shall His followers complain,
Who all the calumnies of men
In life and death endure?

Saviour to Thee in sufferings join'd,
We cordial consolation find,
(If Thou Thy grace supply,)
Thy heaviest load with joy receive.
The offscouring of all things live.
Till on Thy cross we die.
