Ye know not, for ye will not know,
Jesus descended from the sky,
The Substance whom your shadows show.
The Prophet great, the Lord most-high,
The man who nothing knows
But Jesus on his side
Withstands an host of learned foes,
And baffles all their pride.

Learning and power contend
Against the truth in vain,
Whoe'er the cause of Christ defend
The victory must obtain;
For still the truth of God
Doth in its witness fight,
Confounds the unbelieving crowd,
And puts the world to flight.
