by Isaac Williams 1802–1865

From The Cathedral (1838; ed. W. Benham, 1889)

For not on turbulent seas of human pride,
But on the moveless rock she doth remain :
Whatever unquiet Creeds the earth divide,
Between the Cherubims He doth abide,
Whose same still warning voice, afar and near,
Is heard above the ever changeful tide :
Now as of old, unto a thousand year,
Goes forth one weekly store — each willing heart and ear
