Epigram. 6.

by George Wither 1588–1667

Living

LOng did I wonder, and I wonder much,
Romes Church should from her Clergie take that due:
Thought I, why should she that contentment grutch?
What, doth she all with continence indue?
No: But why then are they debar'd that state?
Is she become a foe vnto her owne?
Doth she the members of her body hate?
Or is it for some other cause vnshowne?
Oh yes: they find a womans lips so dainty:
They tye themselues from one, cause they'l haue twenty.
