Love

A Drinking Song

by W. B. Yeats 1865–1939

From The Green Helmet and Other Poems (1912)

LoveLiving

Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

Six lines that set wine and love side by side as the only truths a man will know before he dies: 'Wine comes in at the mouth / And love comes in at the eye'.
