Nature

At an Old Palace

by Yüan Chēn AD 779–831

Translated by Herbert A. Giles (1898) · From Chinese Poetry in English Verse (1898)

Nature

Deserted now the Imperial bowers
Save by some few poor lonely flowers
One white-haired dame,
An Emperor's flame,
Sits down and tells of bygone hours.
