A Jew

Ode XXXVII is anonymous: all the manuscripts head it 'A Jew', and al-Mufaddal is said to have ascribed it to a man of that race.

Lyall notes that the Aghani gives the verses to 'Abdallah ibn Mu'awiyah, an 'Alide pretender killed in A.H. 129 (A.D. 746-47).
