A Man of 'Abd al-Qais

6th century

Ode XIII is anonymous. According to the scholion, its author belonged to the 'Abd al-Qais, on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf, and was a confederate of the Banu Shaiban; another authority attributes the verses to Yazid ibn Sinan.

The fight it describes took place at Dhat ar-Rimth. Lyall says that, if the poem is really by Yazid, it belongs to the age immediately preceding Islam.
