Achilles Tatius
Achilles Tatius was a Greek novelist of Alexandria who wrote in the 2nd century AD. Little is known of his life beyond his name and his city, and later Byzantine tradition added details that cannot be checked.
His one surviving work is Leucippe and Clitophon, a romance in eight books told in the first person by the hero. It follows two lovers through abduction, shipwreck, pirates, apparent deaths and false accusations to their marriage, and it is remarkable for its set-piece descriptions, its learned digressions and its play with the conventions of the Greek novel.
