Addaeus

date uncertain (probably 1st century BC / 1st century AD)

Addaeus is an epigrammatist whose short poems are preserved in the Greek Anthology; the Anthology's headings sometimes call him a Macedonian. His date is uncertain, but he is generally placed among the poets of the early imperial period.

Mackail's Select Epigrams (1890) prints two of his epigrams, one a request to a hero's shrine at Potidaea and one on the release of an old ox from labour.

  1. The Prayers of the Saints (Mackail)
  2. The Release of the Ox (Mackail)
  3. The Ancient Ox
