Âfitâbî

d. c. 1475

Gibb says that Afitabi, a native of Amasya, gained admittance to the court of Sultan Bayezid II but was driven from it by the envy of courtiers, and in retirement wrote a qasida giving an account of his misfortunes.

The poems here are taken from E. J. W. Gibb's Ottoman Poems (1882), the first English verse translations of Ottoman poetry; dates and biographical details follow Gibb's Biographical Notices.
