Victorian
Henry Alford
Henry Alford (1810–1871) was an English churchman, theologian, textual critic, scholar, poet and hymn-writer.
The poems here are taken from Alfred H. Miles (ed.), The Poets and the Poetry of the Century (London: Hutchinson, 1891–1897), vol. 10, from the Internet Archive scans of that edition. Spelling is that of the anthology; Miles's biographical essay and extracts from longer poems are omitted, and only poems that could be read cleanly from the scan are included.
