ash-Shanfara

6th century

Ash-Shanfara of Azd is, in Lyall's words, one of the most interesting figures in ancient Arabia, and is the reputed author of the great Lamiyah. He left his own tribe to live among Fahm, where Ta'abbata Sharra was his companion in raids on foot, and pursued a blood-feud with another branch of the Azd.

Lyall suggests that he probably had African blood, and that he met his death in his attacks on that tribe.
