'Ashiq Pasha

d. 1332

Gibb calls 'Ashiq Pasha the earliest writer of the Ottomans, who flourished in the reign of Orkhan and lived in the town of Qir-Shehr in Anatolia; his title Pasha is a spiritual one, as he was a chief among mystics rather than a leader of warriors.

The poems here are taken from E. J. W. Gibb's Ottoman Poems (1882), the first English verse translations of Ottoman poetry; dates and biographical details follow Gibb's Biographical Notices.
