Bernard Barton

1784–1849

Bernard Barton (1784–1849) was known as the Quaker poet.

The poems here are taken from Alfred H. Miles (ed.), The Poets and the Poetry of the Century (London: Hutchinson, 1891–1897), vol. 10, from the Internet Archive scans of that edition. Spelling is that of the anthology; Miles's biographical essay and extracts from longer poems are omitted, and only poems that could be read cleanly from the scan are included.

  1. Which Things Are a Shadow
  2. A Colloquy with Myself
  3. Sorrow's Love
  4. Caractacus
  5. Sea-Side Thoughts
  6. Robert Bruce and the Spider
