Joseph Beaumont

1616–1699

Joseph Beaumont (1616–1699) was an English clergyman and devotional poet. Educated at Peterhouse, Cambridge, he later became Master of that college and Regius Professor of Divinity. His long religious poem Psyche, or Love's Mystery appeared in 1648.

His shorter poems stayed in manuscript until they were edited, with their seventeenth-century spelling, by Eloise Robinson as The Minor Poems of Joseph Beaumont (1914). They are printed here from that edition.
