Robert Hugh Benson

1871–1914

Robert Hugh Benson (1871–1914), youngest son of Edward White Benson, Archbishop of Canterbury, was ordained in the Church of England, became a Roman Catholic in 1903, and wrote devotional works, many novels and some poems.

The poems printed here are those given in The Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse (1917), edited by D. H. S. Nicholson and A. H. E. Lee; the text is taken from that anthology.
