St. Bernard of Clairvaux

1090–1153

Bernard was born near Dijon in 1090, entered Citeaux, became the first Abbot of Clairvaux, and preached the Second Crusade. He died in 1153.

The hymn Jesu dulcis memoria is generally ascribed to him, taken from a long poem on the name of Jesus known as the Joyful Rhythm. It is given here in John Brownlie's English version of 1896.

  1. O Jesus, when I think of Thee
  2. Iesu dulcis memoria
  3. Iesu dulcis memoria (Part II)
  4. Iesu dulcis memoria (Part III)
