Laman Blanchard

1804–1845

Samuel Laman Blanchard (1804–1845) was an English journalist and poet, a friend of Charles Lamb and Edward Bulwer-Lytton and and editor of several periodicals. He died in 1845; Bulwer-Lytton wrote a memoir for his Sketches from Life (1846).

The poem here is the one printed under his name in Frederick Locker's Lyra Elegantiarum (London: E. Moxon, 1867), an anthology of vers de société and vers d'occasion by deceased authors; the texts follow that first edition.
