Joseph Brenan

1828–1857

Joseph Brenan (1828–1857) was born in Cork and began as a contributor to the nationalist press. In 1848 he moved to Dublin and was imprisoned in Kilmainham; after his release he went to New York and in 1851 settled in New Orleans as a journalist, dying there in 1857.

The poems here are taken from H. Halliday Sparling's anthology Irish Minstrelsy (London: Walter Scott, 1888).
